TUI Travel has been talking to the Jamaican government about bringing in a guaranteed number of tourists to the island.
Edmund Bartlett, minister of tourism, is reported to have said: "Discussions are very advanced. We have just concluded a letter of intent, which will create the framework for the agreement to follow by January 31, 2010.”
No firm details have emerged, although the tourism minister hinted that part of the Jamaican government’s tourism budget would be earmarked to support the deal with TUI.
TUI already brings in 70,000 vistirs per annum to Jamaica.
The TUI execs involved in discussions were Tim Williamson, customer director and David Burling, commercial director from TUI UK & Ireland and Johan Lundgren, Managing Director, Northern Region

Department of Transport unveils ATOL consultation
The Department for Transport (DfT) has unveiled plans to improve the ATOL scheme in a 12-week consultation launched today.
Transport Secretary Andrew Adonis confirmed the reforms would provide greater clarity for consumers and the travel trade about the scope of ATOL protection for holidays and flights.
The consultation is looking at a range of options:
‘Flight plus’ measures whereby ATOL protection would include all sales of a flight together with another significant holiday element such as car hire
Options to clarify the financial protection of flight-only sales, by parties other than an airline
Standard ATOL documentation should be issued to passengers so that they are clear about their financial protection status.
Adonis said: “The ATOL scheme has remained a source of reassurance for travellers since it was drawn up in the 1970s. However, since that time, there have been big changes to travel patterns. The concept of a package holiday has become blurred, as many holidays are now sold through mix-and-match components.
“Consumers must be able to make informed choices. The changes we are proposing will help ensure that the scheme remains relevant to the way people book their holidays today and still offers excellent protection for travellers.”
Other changes being confirmed today mean that the Civil Aviation Authority will be given responsibility for airport economic regulation to promote the interests of passengers.

Travelshop365.com Receives ATOL License
has been announced Travelshop365.com has now been granted a ATOL license T7312 by the Civil Aviation Authority today which increases the security of holidays booked on the travel providers website
What is ATOL and what does it do for me?
ATOL is a protection scheme for air holidays and flights managed by the Civil Aviation Authority (“CAA”). All tour operators and travel firms selling air holiday packages and flights in the UK as a principal are required by law to hold a licence called an Air Travel Organiser’s Licence (“ATOL”).
If you've booked and contracted with a licensed tour operator for a complete air holiday package or just a flight, ATOL protects you from losing money or being stranded abroad if the tour operator goes out of business. If a licensed firm goes out of business, the CAA can give refunds to people who can’t travel and arrange for people abroad to fly home.

Brazil
With Rio cureently celebrating its winning bid to host the 2016 Olympics, the spotlight is set to make Brazil shine even more brightly.
Unlike many of its south American neighbours, Brazil has faily large and relatively wealthy middle class, so domestic tourism is big business.
"Brazil may be new for us in the luxury market, but it is old for them," "they've been hit less hard by the recesssion, so their own economy is driving a lot of top end tourism, and now its beginning to open up internationally. Peru and the Galapagos used to be our biggest seller in Latin America, but this year Brazil and Argentina have taken over. They' re booming."

Morocco this winter part II
Wide sandy beaches, charter flights, and a comprehensive range of accommodation from three to five star, and self catering to all inclusive, have rendered Agadir the destination of choice for Brits hitting Morocco.
Devasted by earthquake in the 1960's it has been rebuilt as a thoroughly modern city with wide street. Its the most European feeleing of all the country's resorts and tourist tend not to visit for the sights, though the historic city of Taroudant is an easy day trip away for those seeking moroccan culture.
The beach is key - it's hugh, clean and safe and, unlike many others on Morocco,s Atlantic coast, well sheltered the winds. if lounging in the sun or snacking in the cafe isn't enough, there is also jet-skiing, quad-biking and horse and camel rides to pass the time.

Morocco this winter part I
Marrakaesh
raucous, vibrant and buslting in parts, suprising calm and comtemplative in others, Marrakesh is a city begging to be explored. client can chooes to stay either in the large international hotels in the new direct of Gueliz, or the more adventurous can head into the old Medina and stay in a traditional Moroccan riad.
The draw for most is the citys colourful North African culture. "its a unique city that offers a long haul experience from a short haul flight, "Boyer says Marrakesh accounts for 77% of classic collections sales to Morocco, with the upmarket Angsana Riads selling particulary well sine their addition to the programme this summer. The thudding heart of the city is the Djemaa el-Fna, the main squarein the heart of the Medina. It temms with the life musicians and dancers at nights, and hawkers, snakes charmers and wemen desperate to give tourist a henna tattoo during the stay.
To the north of the square are the labyrinthine souks where stall holders sell everthing from shoes and spices to tangines and tourist tat. To the south, the exquisite minaret of the Kotoubia mosque rises high above the city.
To escape the hustle and bustle, Travelshop365.com can send clients to Majorelle Gardens these landscape gardens, with signature vivid blue accents, were built by French painters and subsequently brought by fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent. Its a real oasis

Florida Travel Guide
The most famous resident of this central Florida city is Mickey Mouse, the cartoon creation of animated movie tycoon, Walt Disney, whose vision has turned Orlando, and the adjacent Lake Buena Vista and Kissimee areas, into the world’s busiest, biggest and best-known concentrated tourist Mecca. Disney bought up land in the area with the aim of establishing his dream theme park back in the 1960s. He died before the first park, the Magic Kingdom, officially opened in 1971, but his legacy has taken root and is still growing. Currently the Disney empire in Orlando includes four theme parks, dozens of smaller attractions, thousands of hotel rooms and holiday apartments, hundreds of restaurants and snack bars and even two cruise ships. It is not only the Disney dazzle that draws visitors to Orlando. There are other attractions here too, like Universal Studios and Sea World, all adding to the maelstrom of thrills and pleasure palaces that this city is now renowned for. Just a trip down attraction-rich International Drive is a mind-boggling experience.

Swine Flu: FCO advises against non-urgent travel to Mexico
The Foreign Office is advising against all but essential travel to Mexico in the wake of the global Swine Flu outbreak.
Originally the FCO had advised travellers to avoid large crowds, but changed its advice after the World Health Organisation increased its pandemic alert threat to Phase 4 - meaning Swine Flu is capable of human-to-human transmission.
The death toll from flu in Mexico has risen to over 150 - although only 20 are confirmed as Swine Flu cases. Cases of Swine Flu have been confirmed in the US, Canada, Spain and the UK.
Travellers are being advised to consult a doctor immediately if they show signs of flu-like symptoms. http://www.travelshop365.com/

Turkey Travel Guide
Linking Europe and the Middle East, suspended between the new and the long-established, Turkey retains a disconcerted balance of both east and west, representing a cultural mix with many discrepancies and contradictions. Modern city boutiques and exotic bazaars clamour for customers, the weekly tolling of church bells interrupts the daily call of the muezzin, and Roman ruins and the beginnings of Christianity compete for attention with the history of the Ottoman Empire and modern secularity.
The different regions of Turkey offer an assortment of landscapes, activities and characters, and whether one is a history or archaeology enthusiast, a sun-worshipper, sailor, or city-lover keen on shopping, there is something on offer for everyone. Istanbul, with one part in Europe and the other in Oriental Asia, is a fascinating city with its frenzied market places, imperial residences and minarets, and sporting a lively ambience of contemporary art and musical entertainment. Cappadocia in Central Turkey offers an astounding landscape of eroded volcanic rock cones and fairy chimneys, remarkable subterranean cities and rock-hewn houses that merge harmoniously with the ochre-coloured landscape; while further south the 'Turquoise Coast' is a haven for boat cruises. One can enjoy a variety of water sports, sunbathe on golden sands, or explore the wonderful ancient cities of Troy and Ephesus on the shores of the Aegean Sea.
Most visitors concentrate on Western Turkey, with its picturesque seaside resorts along the Aegean and Mediterranean coasts, scenic and recreational attractions, well-preserved archaeological sites and fascinating museums that bring its rich history to life. Wherever one ventures in Turkey there is certain to be a warm welcome and traditional hospitality, making this a deeply satisfying corner of the world in which to travel.

Egypt Travel Guide
Egypt is synonymous with Pharaohs, the pyramids, temples and antiquities from ancient civilisations. And at the centre of these great civilisations lies the Nile River that has influenced their economics, social life, politics and religion. It is the oldest travel destination on earth: Greek and Roman travellers came in 430 BC to wonder at some of the very sights that make it a modern travel destination today. The magnificence of the painted Valley of the Kings, exquisite temples and the pyramids were all sought-after subjects of admiration, and many were already 2,500 years old!
From desert landscapes and dry, rugged mountains that reach to the sea, dusty cities full of exotic sounds and smells, and green strips of agricultural land snaking along the banks of the Nile, Egypt has something to offer all travellers from all walks of life. Spectacular diving in the Red Sea; unique desert experiences, whether on the back of a camel to Mount Sinai or on a jeep safari to the inner oases; the colour and chaos of Cairo and its markets; and felucca cruises on the Nile River are just some of the exotic attractions awaiting visitors. Egypt promises an unforgettable experience of history and relaxation - a mixture of discovery and pleasure.
